Now, as we all know, to be true fashion prince, you do have to be at least passingly aware of at least some designers. You do not have to deck yourself out head to toe in the latest Dolce & Gabbana or Gucci, but a healthy appreciation is always, well, appreciated. But — there’s always a but, isn’t there?
You should not trumpet the fact that you can afford all those stylish labels. It just is not the done thing — or at least, it shouldn’t be. Understated and subtle is always best. The only person who is going to care that you spent three hundred dollars on your socks will be the person who spent two hundred and fifty.
More to the point, do not buy designer clothing just because it is designer. Make sure it suits you. Make sure it looks good. If you’ve got it, great — but you don’t have to flaunt it all over the place at all times, just because you can.
